Short answer: if a Terea stick will not heat in your ILUMA, use a stick from a new sealed pack, make sure it is a TEREA stick inserted the right way, check that Autostart is on and the device is charged and at room temperature, then reset the device.
1. Is it the right stick?
ILUMA only heats TEREA sticks, because the heating element is inside the stick. HEETS and other sticks have no element, so the device will not start. See Terea vs HEETS.
2. Is the stick new and undamaged?
A used stick, or one that is bent, torn or damp, may not activate the device. Try a fresh stick from a new, sealed pack.
3. Is it inserted correctly?
Insert the stick tobacco-end first, gently and fully, in line with the holder opening. A stick pushed in at an angle may not be detected.
4. Is Autostart switched off?
ILUMA i devices start heating automatically when a stick is inserted, but Autostart can be turned off in the device settings. If it is off, start heating with the button, or turn Autostart back on through the device or companion app.
5. Is the device charged and at room temperature?
A low battery or a device that is too hot or cold will not heat. Charge it, bring it indoors and try again. Never leave the device in a parked car.
6. Reset and update
Reset the device (reset guide) and update its firmware through the manufacturer’s companion app.
Taste weak or different?
If the stick heats but the taste seems weak, try a fresh pack, check that packs have been stored away from heat and humidity, and compare with a different flavor. Some flavors are naturally lighter — Silver and Yellow, for example. See the flavor guide.
Still not heating?
If several new TEREA sticks will not heat after a reset, contact the manufacturer’s customer support or your seller. If a whole pack seems faulty, contact the seller you bought it from.
